New Kids On The Block Ticket Information

What a rollercoaster of a ride it has been for New Kids on the Block. In the late 80s, they were arguably the biggest boy band who dominated the airwaves with their music, but then they simply disappeared. The band disbanded in 1994 and though several tries were later made to bring this influential group back together, however they were all in vain, until all five members finally decided to give music another shot. The New Kids on the Block were back in 2007.

To celebrate their reunion, New Kids on the Block decided to record new music and the result was their fifth studio effort, ‘The Block’ which arrived in stores on September 2, 2008. The album pushed them under the spotlight once again as it not only debuted at the second spot on the Billboard 200 but also went gold in Canada. The band is now going on tour. If you want to know what made this band so insanely popular back in the days then watch them perform live by getting your New Kids on the Block tickets today.

Early Life & Influences

New Kids on the Block is influenced by legendary stars like, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Leif Garrett, The Jackson 5, Bee Gees and Wham!

Maurice Starr is the mastermind behind the Brooklyn based quintet, who created this band in 1984. Starr and his partner, Mary Alford began their search for new talents and first found Donnie Wahlberg, who was fifteen at the time. Impressed by his dancing and rapping skills, Alford and Starr recruited him as the first member of the group.

Wahlberg then assisted in finding other members and soon added his brother, Mark along with his friends, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, and Jonathan Knight to the band. Jamie Kelly then took Mark Wahlberg’s spot after he quit the band and before long, he too was replaced in favor of Joey McIntyre. After the lineup of the group was completed, Starr secured them a record deal with Columbia Records and on April 1, 1986, the quintet put out their first eponymous studio album.

‘New Kids on the Block’ featured ten bubblegum pop influenced songs out of which, Be My Girl and Stop it Girl were released as singles. The record landed at the twenty fifth spot on the Billboard 200.

Breakthrough & Recognition

After their debut album could not produce the desired results, the band hit the studio to work on their second studio effort and released the record’s first single, Please Don’t Go Girl on April 16, 1988. Initially, the song went unnoticed and Columbia Records started to make plans for dropping them from the label, but at the eleventh hour, a radio station in Florida began to play the song. It didn’t take time for the track to grow on pop music fans and soon, it became the most requested song on the station.

A few months later, the band released their sophomore record, ‘Hangin’ Tough’ which was released everywhere in the world. The record topped the Billboard 200 and earned them a couple of American Music Awards including one for ‘Favorite Pop/Rock Album.’ It also went on to sell in excess of eight million copies in the United States and became their first album to go diamond in Canada. The record also gave five singles including, Hangin’ Tough and I’ll Be Loving You (Forever) both of which peaked at the first spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Considering the growing popularity of the band, the quintet released the third single, Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time) from their overlooked debut album in 1989. The song climbed the eighth spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped in spiking the record sales of ‘New Kids on the Block.’ It was ultimately certified triple platinum by the RIAA and MC.

On June 5, 1990, Columbia Records released the group’s third studio album, ‘Step by Step.’ The record brought them international success as it went on to top the charts in the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany and Canada. Moreover, it went on to sell more than three million copies in the U.S. and featured the title track which was included in Heat magazine’s list of the ‘Greatest Boyband Anthems.’ The song also appeared in the video game, ‘Just Dance.’

The last studio effort that New Kids on the Block released prior to their breakup was titled, ‘Face the Music’ which was released in 1994.

Album Releases and Notable Work

New Kids on the Block made their comeback in 2007 and since then, they have released two studio records, ‘The Block’ and ’10’ in 2008 and 2013 respectively. The latter charted at the sixth spot on the Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from publications like AllMusic, ARTISTdirect and The Huffington Post. It yielded two singles, Remix (I Like The) and The Whisper.

Apart from six studio efforts, the band has churned out seven compilation records. They have also spawned one holiday album, ‘Merry, Merry Christmas’ which came out on September 19, 1989. It was certified double platinum in the United States and Canada.

New Kids on the Block Tour

In 2017, New Kids on the Block came out with their first EP, ‘Thankful.’ The extended play was loaded with six upbeat songs including one in collaboration with DMX titled, We Were Here. In addition, the EP offered a single, One More Light, which they performed live on, ‘The Tonight Show with James Corden.’

The quintet has now announced a new tour. They will be playing multiple shows live, so get your New Kids on the Block tour tickets from Ticketron if you want to enjoy their highly entertaining performance live.
